New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) chief executive Nicole Rosie will leave the agency at the conclusion of her term in February next year.
The NZTA Board has thanked her for her dedication and leadership over the past 4.5 years.
Chair Simon Bridges acknowledged the personal sacrifice, time and effort that goes with such roles.
Rosie said she was proud of her time at Waka Kotahi, saying it was the highlight of her career in senior management.
The board would begin the recruitment process for her replacement.
The Transport Ageny said Rosie steered the organisation through the disruption of COVID-19, the impacts of multiple weather events including the North Island weather events of early 2023 and a significant growth in its work programme.
"I'm proud that during my time as Chief Executive, we've delivered major projects such as Transmission Gully, the Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway and the State Highway 25A Taparahi rebuild, as well as strengthening our regulatory function and our digital offerings.
"Now is the right time for me to move on to other challenges. I want to thank the wonderful team at NZTA and the partners, stakeholders and communities who are valued contributors to our work," she said.
