A person is in custody after allegedly driving on the wrong side of the Waikato Expressway on Sunday afternoon shortly before fleeing the scene of a three-vehicle crash.
Police said they were first alerted to a vehicle driving north in the southbound lane at about 2.40pm.
They were then called to the crash which involved the motorist in question near Hampton Downs Road about five minutes later.
No one was injured in the crash, a police spokesperson said.
The vehicle is said to have left the crash scene by doing a U-turn and travelling south in southbound lane.
Police later spotted the vehicle travelling north toward Auckland and said it came to a stop after officers signalled for it to pull over.
