A former tank farm on Auckland's waterfront will be transformed into a public headland with coastal walking tracks, sea water pools and a lookout across the Waitemata Harbour.
The city's development agency Eke Panuku has released draft concept designs for Wynyard Point and is inviting public feedback this month.
The plans include developing five hectares of parkland and alongside commercial development, to be built over the next decade.
The project, called Te Ara Tukutuku, has been allocated $119 million up to 2034.
Billed as the region's first new urban park in 100 years, the concept design shows a coastal headland with paths, coves, tidal stairs, a floating sea pool, a tidal pool and a lookout.

The design includes commercial buildings and a public plaza.
Eke Panuku said the development would be staged, with the next two to three years focused on remediating the land which housed petrochemicals and gaining consents for the project.

In feedback on the vision for the project last year, Aucklanders said they wanted places to swim, jump and engage with the sea; walking and cycling paths, spaces for quiet reflection and being in nature; a diverse range of educational and research programmes; being involved in healing and caring for the space; an enhanced marine environment; and native trees to support bird life.
Eke Panuku said all comments were collated and fed into draft concept designs which are now available for the public feedback.
