Quake rattles Wellington region

A small earthquake centred 10km south of Lower Hutt shook the Wellington region on Sunday night.

The magnitude 3.7 quake at a shallow depth of 8km caused light shaking at 11.14pm, Geonet said.

More than 4000 people across the Wellington region reported feeling it.

Earlier in the evening, about 8pm, a magnitude 3.2 quake hit 35km southwest of Te Anau, at a depth of 9km.

About 40 people reported on Geonet that they had felt it.

Last week a shallow 4.8 earthquake jolted the region, with more than 17,000 reports from people who felt the shake.
