Police are investigating after the death of a hunter in the Gisborne District.
Emergency services were called to Tauwhareparae Road near Tolaga Bay shortly after 10:30pm on Saturday.
They found the hunter with critical injuries, airlifting him to hospital, but he died several hours later.
Police said they are speaking with a number of people as their investigation continues.
The person thought to be connected to the sudden death of a man at a sports ground likely left the scene on foot, leaving the critically injured man to die, police say.
A person has been killed and another injured after a crash at Pākaraka, west of Whanganui.
Police say the man missed his calling: "He should have been a marathon swimmer."
A man is in custody after what police called a "family harm incident".
