Three men have been arrested in relation to the alleged murder of Sidney Ross Bridson last year.

Police said emergency services were called to a house fire on Waitaanga Road in the Ruapehu district on 11 October 2023.

The home was "extensively damaged" and the body of Bridson was later found inside.

A homicide investigation was then launched.

On Thursday, a 25-year-old was arrested and on Friday, a 26-year-old and 52-year-old also arrested.

They are all facing murder and arson charges, Detective Senior Sergeant Gerard Bouterey said.

"Police would like to thank those members of the public who came forward to share information with us.

"Police also want to acknowledge Mr Bridson's family for their support while we carried out our inquiries, at what has been an incredibly difficult time.

"While the court process is ongoing, we are pleased to have been able to put people before the courts and be able explain to the family what occurred. We hope this brings some element of closure to them."

The men are due to appear in New Plymouth District Court today.
