Transformer fire puts one in hospital

A person has been taken to Palmerston North Hospital in a moderate condition after an electric transformer caught fire in Feilding on Tuesday morning.

A St John ambulance, rapid response unit and operations manager were called to the scene outside the town's police station at 11.30am.

Fire and Emergency said the blaze was already out when they arrived.

Powerco said the safety of its people, service providers and the public was its top priority.

General manager electricity Karen Frew said her thoughts were with the contractor and his whānau.
