Two men have been charged after police discovered a 3D-printed firearm in a car in Christchurch.

Officers saw a stolen car at a fast food restaurant on Ferry Road at 7.50pm Thursday, and the firearm was located while police were searching the car.

A 20-year-old gang member and a 17-year-old gang associate have each been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police said.

The 20-year-old is scheduled to appear in Christchurch District Court today, while the 17-year-old will appear in the Youth Court.
