Emergency services and animal control were called to a Hastings property after two people were injured.
Hawke's Bay Today is reporting it was a dog attack that injured two children, one of them seriously on about 3pm on Wednesday.
Animal control believes the dog involved in the suspected attack is a pit bull cross.
A spokesperson said the police asked for its help to remove a dog from a property in Hood Street.
The dog has been impounded and the matter was in the hands of the police.
Police said two people were transferred to hospital.
