A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of Robert Nattie Albert.
Albert, 56, was found dead in a building in Lake Horowhenua's Muaūpoko Park on 17 October.
A homicide investigation was launched soon after.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson said investigators had carried out a number of inquiries following Albert's death.
It included CCTV footage and information from the public which had led to the murder charge.
"The family have been advised of the charge and were happy to hear the news," Thompson said.
"This is a huge step in the investigation, but it is only the beginning.
"We know there are others involved and the investigation team will be working hard to bring further closure for the family."
Thompson said the man charged with murder would appear in Levin District Court on Wednesday.
He had previously been arrested on other charges and would appear for those also.
Police were continuing to appeal for information relating to Albert's death.
