The police are chasing leads in a homicide inquiry after a person was shot and killed in the Lower Hutt suburb of Naenae last week.
A manhunt is underway, with the public told not to approach a large man in his 30s with full-face tattoos.
He has gang affiliations, but the police do not believe there is a wider risk to the public.
On Tuesday, neighbours overheard shouts before the shooting, with the man leaving with associates shortly afterwards.
The police said they were following positive lines of inquiry, and had previously asked for anyone with CCTV or dashcams in the area at the time to contact them.
The victim was believed to be Albert Enoka, reportedly a member of the Tribesmen gang and a former president of the Rebels Motorcycle Club's Christchurch chapter.
