A fatal house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Hornby last week is not being treated as suspicious.

The fire in Dickson Crescent broke out just before 1pm on Wednesday.

The person who died has been named as 53-year-old Corrina Angelique Smith, or "Angie" to her friends and family.

Police said a scene examination was complete, but the specific cause of the fire was still being investigated.

Initial investigations suggested the fire was accidental.

Further enquiries would be undertaken to determine the cause of the fire and the death would be referred to the coroner, a police spokesperson said.
