A 21-year-old man charged with attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm is due to appear in court today after a shooting in Palmerston North in mid December.

Detective Sergeant Joe Salisbury said police were called to an address in Tremaine Avenue on the evening of 13 December, to a report that a woman had been shot by someone she knew.

She was taken to hospital with critical injuries, and had since been discharged.

Police arrested the man at a campground in Kimbolton with the help of the Armed Offenders Squad.

Another man, aged 23, was arrested at the same location on unrelated firearms charges.
