State Highway 60 in Tasman is closed between Maisey and Redwood Roads following a serious crash.
Emergency services were alerted to the two-vehicle crash near Appleby, about 20 kilometres from Nelson, about 3.15pm.
Police say initial indications suggest there have been serious injuries.
Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area or expect delays.
