Bluebridge's Strait Feronia ferry is back on track after engine issues left it circling off Wellington's south coast this afternoon amid four-metre swells.
Wellington's harbourmaster Grant Nalder said he understands the ship had an issue with one engine, but it is now resolved and the ship is carrying on.
Bluebridge said the engine had a controlled shutdown and never lost power.
Earlier today, MetService forecast southerly 35-knot winds, easing to 25 knots in the evening with very rough seas and a southerly swell.
Some Interislander ferries were cancelled due to big swells in the strait, and sea conditions expected to deteriorate further into the afternoon.
While there were no disruptions to Bluebridge, it said sailings between Sunday and Tuesday could be uncomfortable and longer than normal.
