A car that was fleeing from police in the Horowhenua District has crashed after driving along railway tracks.
Police said they tried to pull the vehicle over in Koputaroa, north of Levin, after seeing it being driven at speed around midday.
Instead, the driver fled and was not pursued.
Police said the vehicle was then driven along railway tracks, where it crashed.
Officers were looking for the vehicle's occupants and cordons were in place.
The vehicle is off the tracks and KiwiRail has been notified.
