Recovery crews in the Northland town of Mangawhai have cleared 960kg of waste after a devastating storm last month.

Two people were taken to hospital in a serious condition, after the storm that tore roofs off of houses and knocked down power poles.

A Kaipara District Council spokesperson says a 10-person taskforce spent 125 hours over two days clearing the waste at the weekend, as part of Taskfore Kiwi, a nationwide disaster relief organisation.

They say the team was helping to clear debris and remove large amounts of green waste residents couldn't manage on their own.
