Police have named the 11 year old cyclist killed by a car in Hawke's Bay as Emma Jane Kupa from Flaxmere.

The girl was hit by a car last week when she was cycling on Chatham Road in Flaxmere. A 34-year-old woman has been charged with driving in a dangerous manner and a breath alcohol level of over 400.

Tributes are flowing on social media for Emma, with her mother posting a tribute on Friday.

"Me and Dad are up at the hospital waiting for our baby to make her travels to [Palmy]... then home to plan and sort things out before my baby comes back home to where she belongs.

"We thank everyone and see all the love and support from each and all of yous at this time. All we ask is give us abit of space and time - me, dad, siblings and whanau are still trying to process everything."

She also provided a bank account in case friends and family wanted to make donations.

One Voice Community Services Trust posted a video saying they were acting on behalf of the family to gather donations and food for the tangi.
