Five people have been arrested following an incident at a property in the small settlement of Mākara, near Wellington.
Police were called to a house just before 2pm, after reports of a person being threatened with a firearm.
The Armed Offenders Squad responded and cordons were put in place.
Police said three people were arrested as they left the property in a vehicle, while two others who had fled on foot were found nearby and arrested.
Investigations are continuing and no charges have yet been laid.
