Man charged with assault following Nelson bicycle attacks

Police have arrested a man after a spate of assaults in Nelson, thanks to the help of the public.

Officers received multiple reports on 22 January of a man on a bicycle that assaulted at least five pedestrians along Rutherford Street and Waimea Road.

Police said no one was injured, but the victims were distressed.

An investigation was launched, and a number of witnesses were able to provide information that led to his arrest.

The man has been charged with several counts of assault, and will appear in Nelson District Court on Tuesday.
