A person has been critically injured after being thrown from a van when it collided with a tree off a Waikato highway.
State Highway 3 is expected to be closed for several hours following the serious crash between Maraetaua and Pukenui roads.
Emergency services rushed to the crash at around 8.45am Thursday.
"Initial indications suggest a van left the road and hit a tree," a police spokesperson said.
They said one person is in a critical conditionafter being thrown from the van, while another is in a moderate condition and is was being pulled from the vehicle.
The highway is expected to be closed for some time, police said.
