Northland police are appealing for information after a motorist was seriously hurt in an assault.

Detective Sergeant Paul Overton said an assault began on Crawford Crescent in Kamo, Whangārei, and ended on Ngunguru Road at about 5.45pm.

"Two people were arrested and are being spoken to in relation to the incident, and police believe more people may have been involved," he said.

"We are working to piece together exactly what occurred and need your help."

Police appealed for camera footage or sightings of a white Mitsubishi Triton with a canopy and a white Holden Rodeo 4x4 ute.

Potential witnesses who captured the incident on camera or members of the public who saw the utes during this time are being asked to contact police.
