A central Wellington street has reopened after a person was hit by a bus.
The pedestrian was critically injured when they were struck on Manners Street at 4.40pm.
A worker on the street said he saw a man lying motionless on the ground surrounded by people after the collision, who put him into the recovery position.
He said a bus driver appeared to be radioing for help.

Another worker said he did not see the crash but saw a man being loaded into an ambulance.
Part of Manners Street had been cordoned off while the Serious Crash Unit carrie out a scene examination at the site, between Victoria and Cuba streets.
