Police are asking for help in the investigation of a fatal crash in Woodville, Hawke's Bay at about 11am on Monday.
Detective Sergeant Joe Salisbury said a green truck hit a white Ford Transit van travelling in the other direction on Saddle Road.
The driver of the van died at the scene, while the van's passenger was physically unharmed.
The truck driver was injured and had to be cut from the vehicle by emergency services.
Salisbury said the police were looking for witnesses and anyone that had dashcam footage from Saddle Road at around 11am.
He said the investigation into the cause of the crash would take some time.
