Waikato Police say the possible sighting of Travis Langford - reported on Sunday - was not him.

A man matching the description of the missing man was reported hitchhiking on SH30 south of Te Kuiti, then on the Kopaki rail overbridge and on Mangaokewa Road on Sunday morning.

Police confirmed this was not Langford.

Langford disappeared while travelling from Wellington to Waikato on 17 January.

His car was found burnt out on Tolley Road in Ngaroma, west of Tokoroa, the next day.

Police said they wanted to thank the public who contacted them following the reported sightings and encouraged anyone who sees a person matching the description of Langford to get in touch.

Langford's mother Angela Grocott said pleaded in a statement for Langford to "come home".

"Please make contact with me Travis, just a quick text message or phone call that you are safe and are okay.

"You are so missed by your brothers, Dad and I, Zeus and our entire whānau. Our hearts are heavy.

"We don't have the words to express how much you are loved and how much you complete our lives.

"We love you."

Police can be contacted on 105 or online using the reference number 250119/4439.
