A second 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with murder after the death of Michael Tokona in Kawerau almost two months ago.
Tokona, 52, was found dead on the front doorstep of a home on 26 February.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson said this was the third person arrested and charged with murder in the case - following the arrest of another 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man.
The 15-year-old would appear in Whakatane Youth Court on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are pleased to have been able to progress this matter and hold people to account," Wilson said.
The trio were expected to reappear in the High Court at Tauranga on 30 April.
