A crash between a truck and a car has closed State Highway Three at Awakino, in Waitomo.
A police spokesperson says emergency services are at the scene, which happened just before 10am on Wednesday, between Papakauri and Awakau roads.
At least one person has been injured.
Traffic management is being arranged, and motorists should expect delays of several hours while the scene is cleared.
Police advise motorists to take alternative routes.
