An Auckland charity is desperately appealing for help from the public following a report of serious dog abuse at a park late last week.
The animal, which was on a leash, was filmed at Wattle Downs South Path in Manurewa.
The graphic video shows the dog being struck several times and obviously injured, before it is then thrown into the air by its owner.
Chained Dog Awareness founder Christine Breen was sent the disturbing video, and has called for the assistance to track down the dog and its owner.
"In essence, it was someone seeing this happen and a man walking a dog," Breen said. "He was quite abusive... he pulled the dog up, slammed the dog on the ground.
"It appears before that the dog was limping, so something had happened to the leg in a previous assault on the dog. He was kicking the dog - not good to see at all.
"It's a very cruel thing."
She hoped the owner would willingly surrender the dog to her charity for care.
"I think the best outcome for the dog would be for a welfare-experience person, like myself... we don't really encourage vigilante action at all with something like this.
"If anyone knows the address... it has been located to an area, where people know the man has been walking the dog, but we need the address.
"Enforcement authorities can't do anything without an address."
