Monkey King wins NZ Trotting Cup again

6:30 pm on 9 November 2010

Monkey King, driven by veteran horseman Ricky May, has won the New Zealand Trotting Cup at Addington in Christchurch for the second year in a row.

The favourite, Stunin Cullen, failed to finish in the first three. Smoken Up was second and Sleepy Tripp third.

New restrictions on alcohol were in place at Addington Raceway to help cut down on bad behaviour during the Cup meeting.

Addington Raceway chief executive Shane Gloury said earlier that after the Canterbury earthquake in September people were ready to let their hair down and enjoy the day.

Mr Gloury said the new measures would ensure that people enjoyed themselves responsibly.

People entering the raceway were issued with wristbands that had to be worn if you wished to buy alcohol. Those considered to have drunk too much would have their wristband cut off.
