Police in Otago are investigating a fatal car crash that killed a mother and her six-year-old daughter.
The accident happened at 9.35pm on Tuesday on State Highway One, south of Milton.
Police say the woman's car collided with a truck and trailer unit and caught fire.
Another driver who witnessed the collision saved a two-year-old child from the burning car.
The child was flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
The Police Serious Crash Unit has been at the scene and is examining the wrecked car.
