The word jandal has been dropped from a reference list for the world's Scrabble players.
The new edition of Collins Official Scrabble Words has about 3000 new words, including some street slang and internet jargon.
New Zealand's current Scrabble champion, Howard Warner, says the omission of the distinctly New Zealand word jandal is an outrage.
The editor of the Collins list, Robert Groves, says the word was dropped because it was often written as with a capital J in New Zealand newspapers, giving the impression it is still a brand name.
Mr Groves says Collins will check the usage of the word before the next update and will put it back in if necessary.
