Snow has fallen throughout Auckland, including the heart of the city, for the first time in more than 30 years.
Residents began reporting snow flakes falling in parts of South Auckland just before midday on Monday. Two hours later, hail and snow began falling on the streets of inner-city Auckland, where people lined the footpaths taking photographs.
[image:2753:full]The National Institute of Water and Atmostpheric Research (NIWA) says the last time it snowed in Auckland was 21st June, 1976.
Snow fell in the suburb of Mt Albert and at Auckland Airport and the temperatures that day ranged from 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, the first reports of snowfall came just before midday from people in South Auckland.
The MetService is forecasting rain, hail and snow to 400 metres for Auckland on Tuesday.
