A Kaitaia teenager hit by a bus on Monday remains in a critical condition in Auckland''s Starship hospital.
The 14-year-old suffered serious head and neck injuries when she was struck by a school bus outside Kaitaia College, where she is a student.
The police say the driver tooted just before the collision but the girl apparently did not hear the warning in time.
Witnesses have said the teenager was wearing ear phones and using a phone or i-pod.
The police have not decided if they will charge the bus driver but say speed was not a factor.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old Whangarei child injured in a skateboard accident is in a stable condition in Auckland hospital.
The child suffered head injuries when he lost control of his skateboard, went down a drive onto the street, and was hit by a car.
