Women's Refuge says the combination of a loss in funding and more women needing their services at this time of year, is putting extra strain on resources.
Chief executive Heather Henare says the Christmas - New Year period is traditionally when refuges are swamped with women and children escaping violence.
Ms Henare says refuge workers are reporting they're busier than normal, which is a major worry.
She says the refuge would appreciate any donations of money or useful resources to help alleviate the burden.
