A Nelson man is hoping to form the first political party in New Zealand dedicated to the banning of the pest-control poison, 1080.
1080 has been widely used in New Zealand since the 1950s, but its use is controversial because some believe it does more harm than good.
Bill Wallace said he has more than 500 paid-up members and is now trying to meet the legal requirements to register the Ban-1080 Party.
He says if its registration succeeds, it will be the first party of its kind in New Zealand.
Mr Wallace says because the party would focus on a single issue, it should receive support from across the political spectrum.
