The Labour Party is campaigning to make redundancy payments compulsory for employees who are laid off.
The campaign is to drum up support for a bill by Labour MP Darien Fenton, that aims to make redundancy protection "fair and decent".
According to the party, as many as 80% of employees don't have redundancy protection written into their employment agreement.
Ms Fenton says the bill is designed to help people who've been laid off through no fault of their own.
It would ensure they receive four weeks remuneration for the first full year of employment and two weeks remuneration for each subsequent year.
Ms Fenton expects to present the bill in about six months.
