The National Party has won the most votes in the 2017 general election, but will still need other parties to govern.
- National has won 46.0 percent of the vote based on the preliminary result (which excludes special votes)
- Labour is on 35.8 percent, NZ First is on 7.5 percent and the Green Party has 5.9 percent
- No party has enough to govern alone
- National leader Bill English expects to talk to NZ First leader Winston Peters in the next few days about forming a coalition
- Labour leader Jacinda Ardern has said the Greens would receive the first post-election call from Labour, but she would also be calling Winston Peters
- The Māori Party has lost all its seats in Parliament
- ACT's David Seymour won Epsom, but Bill English has ruled ACT out as a coalition partner saying it would "complicate any governing arrangement"
- NZ First leader Winston Peters has lost his Northland seat.
