The leader of the Disinformation Project is warning disruptions on the campaign trail will become an increasing problem this election.
Protesters have hijacked campaign events on at least three occasions in the past week, yelling at politicians.
Disinformation Project director Kate Hannah said it is vital this does not dominate the conversation, as it will turn people off politics.
"It does turn people off from engaging with political discussions broadly, and we need people to be really engaged and to vote."
Hannah said people organising local debates should make sure their MC and others have the skills to de-escalate any potential hostile interventions.
One of the events hijacked included Labour's campaign launch on Saturday where leader Chris Hipkins promised free dental for under 30s should they be re-elected come 14 October.
On Sunday, the National Party unveiled an election year pledge card, listing eight of its priority promises.
