Prime Minister Christopher is speaking to media a day after the government announced its alternative ferry replacement project.
This included setting up a new government-owned company to buy two new medium-sized ships to replace the ageing fleet of three ferries, one of which is able to carry trains. The ports will also be asked to bear more of the cost of the port build, which is what led to the cost blowouts of Labour's project.
The Opposition has lambasted the plan as an "omnishambles" and critics said it lacked any specific detail.
Earlier on Morning Report, new Minister of Rail Winston Peters disputed ACT leader David Seymour's claims about what the project would cost, saying it would be "stupid" and "imprudent" the name the price ahead of the tender process.
The Prime Minister is speaking to media at the opening of Salvation Army's Hinemoa Housing Community in Levin.
