A woman has fallen and died in Mount Aspiring National Park.
Police said they understood the 24-year-old and her climbing partner were on a four-day trek based out of Makarora.
They were negotiating the Matukituki Waterfall face near Rabbit Pass when she fell.
Another climbing party nearby came to their aid and alerted emergency services by satellite phone.
Police and Alpine Cliff Rescue personnel said the woman's body had been recovered, but her name would not be released until family overseas had been told.
