Police name Patea tanker crash victims

The three people killed in a fiery crash between a car and a milk tanker in Patea 11 days ago have been named.

They died when the tanker hit their car on Patea's main thoroughfare, Egmont St. The street is part of SH3 running through the south Taranaki town.

Police named them as Cherylene Alison Bayne, 61, her brother John James William Bayne, 64, and 22-year-old Chantelle Nikita Giles.

All three were from Patea.

The tanker driver, who was found dead at his home four days after the accident, was Michael Douglas Fairclough, 53.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
