With the confirmation that a cropping farmer from South Canterbury has broken the world record for the largest barley yield, it now puts three world cropping titles in the hands of South Island farmers.
Warren and Joy Darling, who farm just south of Timaru, now hold the world record for the largest barley crop at 13.8 tonnes a hectare.
Earlier this year, North Otago farmer Chris Dennison claimed a world record for his canola crop at 6.31 tonnes per hectare.
And back in 2010, Southland farmer Mike Solari of Otama broke his own record for the highest wheat yield at 15.63 tonnes per hectare.
