About 200 deer industry delegates are gathering in Napier today for a two day conference focusing on the future of venison and velvet production.
The Deer industry conference theme is 'Hindsight to Foresight' and organisers say it will be marking 40 years since the Deer Farmers Association began.
Deer Industry New Zealand's producer manager Tony Pearce said there was a record turn out for attendees, who will be hearing from venison companies, the Korea Ginseng Corporation, Beef and Lamb and other industry leaders.
"The conference is about the future, about our "passion to profit" Primary Growth Partnership programme.
"It's about encouraging people who are in the industry today to have confidence in the future of venison and velvet and the focus on on-farm productivity.
"So our speakers and themes for the next two days reflect that and on the third day is the Hawke's Bay field trip, where we will see on a very good farm a lot of that productivity growth in action," he said.
