The under-fire Australian league referee Matt Cecchin has been officially stood down following Sunday's error-strewn performance during the NRL match between the Sydney Roosters and Brisbane.
After the Broncos' 40-22 win, Cecchin admitted to referees boss Bill Harrigan that he wrongly awarded a try to each side, once when a Roosters player dropped the ball in goal, and later when a Brisbane player ran away to score after failing to play at the ball.
Cecchin was a controversial figure in the opening State of Origin match.
