The former world number one tennis player Amelie Mauresmo has had to forfeit her Brisbane International semi-final against compatriot Marion Bartoli after receiving treatment on her lower back and left leg.
The Frenchwoman, who had stunned top seed Ana Ivanovic in the quarter-finals on Thursday, was serving at 0-4 when she called for the trainer.
Mauresmo's retirement resulted in Bartoli clinching a final with second seed Victoria Azarenka.
The Belarussian had earlier thrashed Italy's Sara Errani 6-3 6-1 in just over an hour.
