The New Zealand men's rugby sevens side have opened their campaign at the Japan leg of the IRB World Series with a 43-5 thumping of Wales.
The veteran Tim Mikkelson scored a hat-trick in Tokyo as the All Blacks Sevens ran in seven tries and led 24-nil at half-time.
There were also wins for defending champions South Africa, Fiji, England, Australia and Canada, with the only upset coming as the USA tipped over heavyweights Samoa 24-17.
Japan led 14-7 before a late try saw the hosts draw 14-14 with Argentina.
New Zealand lead the series over South Africa by a narrow 99 points to 97 margin.
