Manchester City footballers are the most highly-paid athletes in global sport, according to the results of a study undertaken by Britain's Sporting Intelligence website.
The study has revealed that the average annual salary of a first-team player at Manchester City is 5.3 million pounds.
Second and third on the rich list are the Major League Baseball teams the New York Yankees and the LA Dodgers, and there are five other European football clubs in the top 10.
Meanwhile reports in the British media have suggested that Manchester City are about to be punished for contravening European football's Financial Fair Play rules, which oblige clubs not to spend beyond their means.
