New Zealand surfer Ricardo Christie has finally been knocked out of his World Surf League debut, at the season-opening event on the Gold Coast.
After 10 straight lay days due to small waves, Christie was eliminated by Australia's Taj Burrows this afternoon in in their sudden-death second round.

There hadn't been any competition since Saturday's first day at Snapper Rocks, when Christie was last in his first-round heat.
