New Zealand showjumpers have just dipped out on qualifying for Rio at the Olympic Qualifier in Germany.
But it came right down to the wire, with France-based Samantha McIntosh and Estina jumping off against Isheau Wong of Chinese Taipei.
McIntosh was first out, going clear in 39.7 seconds, with Wong coming home in 36.38.
Equestrian Sports New Zealand jumping performance coach Jeff McVean was "gutted".
"Sam had an awesome three rounds but was just unlucky (to take a rail) in the second round," he said. "I am gutted for the riders."
The four fault rail in the second round forced the jump-off.
"It is very disappointing to miss out by such a close margin but I am very proud of their performances nonetheless."
New Zealand's other combination, Bruce Goodin and Centina 10, picked up eight faults in the first round and four in the second. Just 19 of the original 27 starters came back for the second round.
New Zealand could still qualify an individual jumper for Rio through rider rankings, although it would be a very challenging prospect.
Japan and Australia this morning won the two team spots up for grabs in a very close battle.
