Jack Bauer of Wellington has won the men's race at the national road cycling championships in Christchurch.
18-year-old Michael Vink of Christchurch, who won this week's under 23 time trial, made a solo breakaway for much of the 186km race, but was caught by a group of seven riders with less than two of the 12 laps remaining.
Bauer won in a sprint finish from internationals Hayden Roulston and Julian Dean.
Bauer, who is based in Europe, finished second in the Tour of Southland late last year.
